Ron Fontes, Il Maestro

1970-1980 Advertising art director: Creative Corporation of Clarksville, TN; The Art Factory and McDonald & Associates, Nashville, TN; Phillips and King Advertising, New York City. Graphic design, illustration, corporate identity, TV storyboards.

1980-82 Whitman Comics Cover and logo designer, layout and corrections artist. Worked on everything from Magnus, Robot Fighter to Little Lulu. Laid out stories, fixed off-model art, designed juvenile books.

1982-1985 Marvel Comics Special Projects artist, promoted to Special Projects Supervisor. Created juvenile books, presentations, art for licensed products, and the company softball jacket; at the same time, designed and pasted up the first 3 issues of Comics Interview, co-wrote a 3-part story for World’s Finest #296-298 and published the first 8-page Captain Fortune story in Epic Illustrated.

1985-1987 Freelance graphics and NYU Film School, with a part-time job at the NATIONAL LAW JOURNAL.

1987-present With his wife, Justine Korman (Fontes), Ron has written over 350 mass-market children’s books. Look them up on Amazon.com! Ron also published five issues of Captain Fortune, an adults-only comic book with Rip Off Press, Inc.

Ron doesn’t care about being a comic book superstar. II maestro draws to pay bills and because he is an artist. Accustomed to revisions and the editorial process, il maestro is conversant with most forms of reproduction and never misses a deadline.
